Where you build decides which of these fits: a fence at your back means only the sides facing open lawn need walls, a concrete patio suits the grill gazebo, and bare lawn calls for the pavilion with its flat-laid pallet floor.

These 5 run from a simple shaded seating frame you can finish in an afternoon to a fully roofed build that takes more time.

Since pallets cost little or nothing, the budget goes to fasteners, seat cushions and the corrugated metal panels overhead.

1. Pallet Garden Gazebo

A gazebo built mostly from pallets is the cheapest way I know to get a shaded spot on the lawn. Pallets are often free, so your money goes to screws, cushions and a finish.

Plan the seating into the frame, a built-in bench along one side for example, and the table and stools can stay separate pieces you move around. Sand every board you’ll touch before sealing it, because pallet wood splinters easily.

2. Pallet Gazebo Lounge Area

Blue cushions and string lights do most of the mood work, but planter boxes built into the pallet wall are the detail I’d copy first: the slats already make the pockets, so you only need a liner and a bottom board.

A pallet wall with pots set along it gives you privacy and a garden in one build.

Keep the lights on an outdoor-rated cord. Set the whole lounge beside a fence, as this one is, and you only need to build the sides that face open lawn.

3. Pallet Gazebo with Seating

Built-in seating means the bench is part of the structure, so it stays put and braces the walls. I like that better than hauling in loose chairs.

Red checkered curtains give you a soft wall you can open or close, and they cost far less than another pallet panel.

Build the bench first, then fit the frame around it. Cushions are the one piece worth buying new.

4. Pavilion Made from Recycled Pallets

Pavilion style means an open, roofed structure with a floor, and pallets can cover all of it. Laying pallets flat as decking gives you a level base for the sofa and coffee table.

Check that every floor pallet sits flat before you screw anything down, and shim the low corners. This is a bigger build than a simple gazebo, so plan on more than one afternoon.

5. DIY Grill Gazebo

Grilling is the one job where I’d put the roof first. A corrugated metal roof sheds rain and sun, and pallet shelves beside the grill hold tools and supplies.

Leave generous clearance between a gas grill and any wood, and check the grill maker’s manual for the exact distance.

A concrete patio makes the best base for a grill gazebo, since it stays level and solid and the pallet legs won’t sink or rot in soil.
